So I was going through some junk in my room today, and I found my favorite book Smashed by Koren Zailckas. I opened it up, and low and behold there was the page that started my love affair, an excerpt from a poem by e.e. cummings. For some reason it has been my favorite poem of all time since the day I read it back in 2006 (Holy hell, 6 years ago?!) Anyway, I wanted to share it because, well, I love it.

"Since feeling is first" by e.e. cummings

since feeling is first
who pays any attention
to the syntax of things
will never wholly kiss you;

wholly to be a fool
while Spring is in the world

my blood approves,
and kisses are a far better fate
than wisdom
lady i swear by all flowers. Don't cry
--the best gesture of my brain is less than
your eyelids' flutter which says

we are for eachother: then
laugh, leaning back in my arms
for life's not a paragraph

And death i think is no parenthesis

The beauty of poetry is that it can be interpreted however you want it. I like to think he is saying that feeling is so overwhelming at times, and real love is so rare, that logic ceases to exist when you are in that state of mind. 2345
